Get out your calendars, because lots is going on in Gettysburg this summer.  Enjoy music, the arts, or even Irish dancing with friends or family members at any one of the following festivals and music venues.

Gettysburg Festival- June 10- 19

Kicking off the summer is the Gettysburg Festival celebrating American arts, culture, and cuisine for 10 fun-packed days in June.  The festival features several music genres including jazz, brass, classical, and folk. Highlighting the festival is the All-American Brass Picnic on June 18 from 11am to 5pm, which showcases six of the best brass groups from the Mid-Atlantic region.  While listening make sure you grab some award-winning craft beers and classic picnic fare selected and overseen by Former White House Executive Chef Walter Scheib. And of course, once your stomach’s full and your foot’s tapping, make sure you swing by the booth run by the hottest builder in town — Summit Homes. 

At Summit Homes’ booth you’ll find your free summer gifts which will be needed for all your future summer festivals. The Gettysburg Festival is from June 10 to June 19, 2011. Entry is free, but a preorder ticket is required if you’ll be joining in the picnic fare. For more information click here.

Adams County Irish Festival- July 16

Get out that green pen and mark your calendars for July 16, 2011 because that’s when Moose Park, Gettysburg turns into Ireland.

With bagpipes filling your ears and kilts rushing by, the Adams County Irish Festival certainly allows your imagination to wander overseas. Spending the day in this smorgasbord of Irish merchandise, dance, cuisine, and music costs $10 for adults and children under 12 are free. By taking this cultural vacation you’ll be helping to raise money to benefit charitable organizations in Ireland through the Conway Mill Trust of Pittsburgh.  To see a list of entertainers and workshops attending the festival, click here.

Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival- August 18-21

Rounding out your summer is the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival from Aug. 18 to Aug. 21, 2011.  Returning to the Granite Hill Camping Resort, the festival is celebrating 33 years, a new Timber Frame Main Stage, and about two dozen bands.

Both bluegrass and country artists with be performing including The SteelDrivers, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and Mountain Heart. If you get a chance make sure to wander over to Granite Hill’s adventure golf course, kayak rentals, or 3-acre Bass fishing lake. More information is located at their website, click here.

Shippenburg University Community Orchestra Spring Concert – Concert Event

Held at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center; this concert by the Shippensburg University Community Orchestra features the music of J. S. Bach and Janet Peachy of Washington D. C. The orchestra will premier Peachey’s violin concerto, Night Songs, with Peachey conducting and Shippensburg Orchestra director Dr. Mark Hartman performing on violin. The orchestra will also perform several favorite masterpieces by Bach and a surprise piece or two inspired by Bach.
